The facts are staggering: more than 8 million people - over a quarter of Uganda's population - lack access to clean, safe water. Most of those who lack access to clean water live in rural areas. More than 12,000 children die each year of diahrea, which is caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation.

ClearWater Initiative was started in 2007 to address the needs of Ugandans as they returned home from displaced persons camps and rebuilt their communities at the end of the decade-long conflict with Joseph Kony and the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA). We specialize in partnering with small, remote, rural villages that no one else is reaching. We've observed that newly-dug wells often break down and go out of service within two years of installation, so we work intensively with villages over several months to provide training, build a committee to care for the water point, and finance future repairs. Our goal is to empower villages to lead happier, healthier, and more productive lives.
